Prolonged periods of below freezing temps can cause damage to your water pipes. 

Follow these steps to help avoid damage: 
1. Cover or insulate exposed pipes, including those underneath raised homes and disconnect water hoses for the outside faucet. 
2. Keep one or two faucets running slowly. Water moving through the system should prevent the line from freezing. 3. Drain and turn off your lawn sprinkler system. 
4. Turn off the water to your clothes washer if it’s in an unheated garage. 
5. If you leave your house before a freeze, turn off the water at the s shutoff valve and leave your heat on. 

Are your pipes frozen? 

Follow these steps to help avoid damage: 
1. Shut off the main water to your home. This is typically found near the street in a compartment with "water meter" on the lid. You can use a water key, plyers, an adjustable wrench, or channel locks.

2. Open all of your faucets to reduce pressure on the pipes. 
3. Contact a professional plumber to inspect your system and make any necessary repairs.
