Barricaded subject taken into custody without incident, investigation ongoing 
On Wednesday, January 31, 2024, members of the Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team successfully resolved a situation involving a barricaded subject on Doncaster Lane in Okatie.
Shortly after 2 p.m., deputies with the Sheriff’s Office Civil Process Unit attempted to serve a Legal Writ of Process, as well as an outstanding arrest warrant at a home on Doncaster Lane in Sun City. Upon arrival, the 54-year-old Okatie man pepper sprayed a Deputy before barricading himself inside the home. The man was also armed with a hatchet.
Members of the SWAT Team and Crisis Negotiations Team responded, along with additional deputies.
After about four hours of ongoing talks with the man, members of the SWAT Team took the man into custody without incident.
“We are glad this event was resolved and done so without any harm to the residents of Sun City, as well as the subject,” Beaufort County Sheriff PJ Tanner said.
The outstanding arrest warrant, Malicious Injury to Animals, Personal Property, Injury Value $2,000 or less, was in connection to an incident in April 2022 in which the man caused damage to a Sun City Security vehicle.
This incident remains under investigation and additional charges may be forthcoming.
