Fairfield Police Reminds Bicyclists to Follow the Rules of the Road
The Fairfield Police Department would like to remind students (and their parents), that while bicycling is a great means of transportation and recreation, just like driving a car, it also comes with a duty to share the road responsibly.
Assembling in large groups to willfully obstruct traffic is not only dangerous and irresponsible, but illegal. Bicyclists have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers of motor vehicles, which includes stopping at red lights and for stop signs, driving in the flow of traffic, utilizing bike lanes where present, and riding as near to the curb or edge of the roadway as practicable.
Bicyclists who don’t follow the rules of the road may be cited for a number of violations, including impeding traffic, or have their bikes confiscated.
Please arrive alive - make good decisions whether behind the wheel…or handlebars.
