Two Amsterdam men arrested

ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Jared Hernandez and Tim W. Torres were arraigned in Amsterdam City Court in front of Honorable Judge Lisa W. Lorman and were remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On April 20th, 2024 at approximately 8:28 A.M. Amsterdam Police were called to a residence on Forbes Street for a burglary in progress. As patrol officers arrived they made contact with two individuals who were identified as Jared Hernandez and Tim W. Torres who were carrying various items related to construction out of the home. It was found through the course of the investigation that the suspects had begun unlawfully entering the home and taking construction equipment out since the day prior without the owner's consent.
Jared Hernandez and Tim W. Torres were taken into custody as the investigation continued. The Amsterdam Police Detective Bureau was notified and drafted a search warrant signed by the Honorable Judge Lisa W. Lorman for a residence on Division Street in an attempt to recover the proceeds of the burglary including building materials and tools. An estimated two thousand dollars of stolen property was recovered from the Division Street location.
The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by the office of the Montgomery County District Attorney Lorraine Diamond in this investigation, the investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
