Simi Valley Police Department Commemorates Peace Officers Memorial Day
The Simi Valley Police Department would like to remind the community that today, May 15, 2024, marks Peace Officers Memorial Day. This significant day is dedicated to honoring the brave Officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down their lives to ensure the safety of our neighborhoods.
For the members of the Simi Valley Police Department, Peace Officers Memorial Day holds profound significance, particularly in remembrance of Officer Michael Clark. On August 4, 1995, Officer Clark responded to a call to assist a troubled member of the community and tragically lost his life in the line of duty, becoming the first and only member of the Simi Valley Police Department to do so.
In solidarity with Peace Officers nationwide, Simi Valley Police Officers will participate in observing National Peace Officers Memorial Day. They will don black mourning bands across their badges, and flags at City facilities will be lowered to half-staff in honor of Officer Clark and all Peace Officers who have selflessly served their communities.
This commemoration coincides with National Police Week, spanning from Sunday, May 14, 2024, through Saturday, May 20, 2024. Initially proclaimed by President John F. Kennedy in 1962, National Police Week stands as a tribute to the unwavering dedication, sacrifices, and invaluable service of Peace Officers throughout our country.
