Advisory

We want to hear from you! Help make EC Safer take the Transportation Safety Action Plan Survey.

The City of East Chicago is developing a Transportation Safety Action Plan to identify and eliminate fatalities and serious injuries from vehicle crashes for everyone (pedestrians, bicyclists, transit users, and drivers). With community input, this plan will prioritize roadway and infrastructure projects that address safety challenges for residents of East Chicago and support future funding opportunities for safety projects.

The Transportation Safety Action Plan centers people and communities most affected by traffic related injuries and fatalities—including pedestrians, bicyclists, and people in historically underserved communities—to improve safety for all users.

The engagement goal for this plan is to incorporate and reflect community voices in the planning process, transportation safety project design process and implementation, and the Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) funding application. The plan prioritizes engagement with residents/communities who are most impacted by traffic crashes, especially low-income and Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC).

The Open House will allow attendees to discuss transportation safety issues they have experienced throughout the city. Staff will be available to speak with attendees and record comments. If you are unable to attend you can provide feedback via. our online questionnaire located on our city website. www.eastchicago.com

We have had (2) Public Engagement Open Houses which were held in November. Our next Public Engagement Open House at Heritage Hall Center will be held in March 2024 the date will be announced. Until then please provide your feedback by taking the online survey.
