4th of July Safety Information
The following is the city ordinance that regulates discharging fireworks in the city limits of Sonora, Texas:
Sec. 62-2. - Shooting guns, firearms, fireworks.
(a) It is declared a misdemeanor for any person to shoot within the limits of the city, any air, spring or other gun that discharges shot, balls, bullets, projectiles or other missiles or fire or discharge any cannon, gun, pistol or firearm of any description, except target guns in shooting galleries, unless in case of urgent necessity.
(b) It is declared a misdemeanor for any person to fire, explode or set off any fireworks, squib, cracker or other thing containing powder or other combustible or explosive material, anywhere within the limits of the city.
(c) Any violation of this section is a class C misdemeanor punishable by a fine.
We are asking our citizens to photograph or video firework violators within the city limits. This will assist law enforcement with their ability to investigate these violations. Please report firework complaints to the Sonora Police Department at 325 387-3888.
As a reminder, the Sutton County Commissioners court has agreed to let citizens discharge their fireworks on their designated parking lot at the rodeo grounds.
