Sheriff’s Office makes arrest in homicide investigation 
Friday, August 30, 2024, The Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office began investigating a report of a homicide that possibly occurred earlier in the week, but had not been reported.
The investigation led the Sheriff’s Office to an address in the Hilanda Drive Community in Burton. During the investigation the body of a male subject was found deceased. An autopsy has been scheduled by the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office, but it has been determined the male suffered from a gunshot wound. He has been identified, but his identity will not be released at this time due to needing to contact his family.
Two suspects have been arrested and charged for this homicide. 36-year-old Erbert Francisco Vargas-Caballero was charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. 33-year-old Edwin Humberto Martinez-Ruiz is charged with Accessory after the Fact of Murder.
