News Release: Cyclist Succumbs to Injuries Suffered in Solo Crash
Police are investigating a solo-bicycle collision that occurred Monday afternoon. The cyclist died from his injuries on Wednesday.
On Monday, September 16, 2024, at about 1:45 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received multiple calls of a bicyclist down in the roadway on 2400 block of Park Boulevard. Officers responded immediately, as did personnel from the Palo Alto Fire Department. Paramedics transported the cyclist, a man in his eighties, to a local hospital, where he died Wednesday.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the cyclist was riding southbound on Park Boulevard when he entered a lane closed for construction and fell from his bicycle and sustained a major head injury. Personnel from the Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team are continuing the investigation. The cause of the collision remains under investigation.
Police are not releasing the cyclist’s identity; that information can be obtained from the Santa Clara County Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner.
