TOMORROW - National Coffee with a Cop Day
The South River Police Department invites all community members to join us for National Coffee with a Cop Day tomorrow, October 2nd from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM at Dunkin' Donuts located at 75 Main Street.
Officers from our Department will come together with community members in an informal, neutral space to discuss community issues, build relationships and drink coffee. "Coffee with a Cop" provides a unique opportunity for community members to spend time with officers, ask questions and learn more about the department’s work in South River in a relaxed, informal environment.
The majority of contacts law enforcement has with the public happen during emergencies or emotional situations. Those situations are not always the most effective times for relationship building with the community and some community members may feel that officers are unapproachable on the street. "Coffee with a Cop" breaks down barriers and allows for a relaxed, one-on-one interaction.
"Coffee with a Cop" is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are held across the country as local police departments strive to make lasting connections with the communities they serve.
The program aims to advance the practice of community policing through improving relationships between police officers and community members one cup of coffee at a time.
A very special thank you to Dunkin' Donuts for graciously opening their doors and allowing us to bring another "Coffee with a Cop" event to the South River community.
Can't make this one? Follow us on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and NIXLE for additional "Coffee with a Cop" dates throughout the year.
