The Newark Police Department is releasing information about recent crime and police activity that has occurred within our community.
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 30, 2024:
1:23 AM Officer Williams conducted a traffic stop near Newark Boulevard & Central Avenue. A 52-year-old male was cited failing to yield at a stop light, driving with a suspended license, and possession of narcotics.
6:16 AM Officer Taylor investigated a burglary and theft reported near Enterprise Drive & Filbert Street where a lock was discovered cut off. Reported loss included building materials and industrial supplies.
7:23 AM Officer Orozco investigated a vehicle burglary near Wells Avenue & Spruce Street. The rear storage containers were discovered opened, with reported losses of a generator and power tools.
9:37 AM Community Service Officer (CSO) Lau investigated a license plate theft near Farnham & Edgewater Drives.
9:52 AM Officer Lomeli investigated a bicycle theft near Cedar Boulevard & Thornton Avenue.
12:30 PM Officers responded to a report of possible explosives in the area of Enterprise Drive & Wells Avenue.
7:30 PM Officer Smith investigated a license plate theft near Ruschin Drive & McLaughlin Avenue.
8:40 PM Officer Cervantes responded to a report of a battery near Cherry Street & Dairy Avenue. A 32-year-old female was arrested for child abuse and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
11:32 PM Officer Smith responded to Edgewater Drive for the report of a vehicle burglary in progress. A stolen vehicle was recovered. A 17-year-old juvenile was arrested and released to their parents.
TUESDAY, OCTOBER 1, 2024:
5:52 AM Officer Dale investigated multiple vehicle burglaries reported on Newpark Mall Road.
6:34 AM Officer Berlanga investigated a report of vandalism on Civic Terrace Avenue and Newark Boulevard.
7:52 AM Officer Berlanga investigated an attempted vehicle burglary. Entry was determined through the sunroof.
5:25 PM CSO Lau investigated a report of vandalism near Saint Matthew Drive & Civic Terrace Avenue.

9:35 PM Officer Cervantes investigated a residential burglary near Chapman Drive & Cedar Boulevard. Entry was made via a second-floor window. Reported loss included firearms, jewelry, and other valuables.
9:37 PM Officer Soto investigated a window smash vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. A backpack was reported taken from the rear passenger seat.
WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 2, 2024:
6:46 AM Officer Lara investigated a residential burglary near Sycamore Street & Graham Avenue. The garage was burglarized with the reported loss of bicycles, and sports & military equipment.
8:03 PM CSO Mora investigated a vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. The rear trunk of the vehicle was broken into resulting in the loss of power tools.
8:53 PM Officer Soto responded to a vehicle collision near Thornton Avenue & Locust Street. A 29-year-old male was arrested for driving under the influence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
9:40 PM Officer Berlanga was dispatched to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard on the report of a theft.
10:19 PM Officer Dale was on routine patrol near Cherry Street & Graham Avenue. A 34-year-old male was arrested for an outstanding warrant and released with a citation.
THURSDAY, OCTOBER 3, 2024:
3:24 AM Officer Cervantes investigated a vehicle theft reported near Gateway Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue.
4:53 AM Officer Smith investigated a commercial burglary reported near Mayhews Landing Road & Newark Boulevard. A window was shattered, and cash was taken.
5:00 AM Officer Cervantes arrested an 18-year-old male for battery near Port Sailwood Drive & Cedar Boulevard. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
7:39 AM Officer Lor investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Gateway Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue. The door handle was observed broken, and the loss is currently unknown.
7:50 AM Officer Medina responded to Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard for a vandalism to a business. The side window was smashed into with unknown loss at this time.
8:31 AM Officer Lor conducted a welfare check near Musick Avenue & Burdick Street. A 33-year-old male was arrested for corporal battery and booked into Santa Rita Jail.
4:42 PM CSO Mora investigated multiple thefts on Newpark Mall Road.
10:08 PM Officer Dale arrested a 38-year-old male for loitering on Civic Terrace Avenue & Newark Boulevard.
11:46 PM Officer Dale responded to an assault reported on Thornton Avenue & Mulberry Street. A 33-year-old male was arrested for assault with intent to rape, and attempting to destroy a cellphone. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
FRIDAY, OCTOBER 4, 2024:
4:49 AM Officer Piquette responded to a report of vandalism near Mayhews Landing Road & Newark Boulevard.
6:41 AM Officer C. Torres investigated a vehicle burglary near Mayhews Landing Road & Colbert Street.
8:52 AM Sergeant Mapes responded to a vandalism near Thornton Avenue & Cedar Boulevard.
10:34 AM Officer Lor responded to a report of an assault with a deadly weapon near Jarvis Avenue & Lido Boulevard. A 42-year-old male was arrested for threats, and aggravated assault. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
10:27 AM Officer S. Torres investigated a license plate theft on Newpark Mall Road.
12:02 PM Officer S. Torres responded to Newpark Mall Road for a reported theft. Two 37-year-old females were arrested for theft and released with a citation.
12:24 PM Officer Medina investigated a vehicle burglary reported near Cedar Boulevard & Mirabeau Drive. The door handle was observed broken off with unknown loss reported at this time.
3:00 PM Officer Medina recovered a stolen vehicle near Mowry Avenue & Cherry Street.
3:07 PM CSO Mora investigated a vandalized vehicle near Balentine Drive & Mowry School Road.
4:21 PM CSO Mora investigated an attempted vehicle burglary near Bay Breeze Street & Tallship Way. The door lock was forced open, and the vehicle’s ignition was tampered with.
7:10 PM CSO Mora responded to Newpark Mall Road for the report of a theft.
8:26 PM Officer Williams was on routine patrol near Sycamore Street and recovered a stolen vehicle.
SATURDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2024:
12:36 PM Officer Lomeli investigated a license plate theft reported from a parking lot at Thornton Avenue & Cedar Boulevard.
8:19 PM Officer Lara responded to a report of a vehicle stopped in the middle of the road near Thornton Avenue & Sycamore Street. A 34-year-old male was arrested and booked into Santa Rita Jail for DUI.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 6, 2024:
1:20 AM Officer Williams was on routine patrol and observed a vehicle speeding near Cherry Street & Central Avenue. A 55-year-old male was arrested for driving on a suspended license and attempting to flee from a peace officer. He was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
4:27 AM Officer Lara responded to a request of an outside agency assist near Bettencourt & Haley Streets. A 35-year-old male was arrested for battery, obstructing arrest, and public intoxication. He was released at the scene.
8:35 AM Officer Pacheco investigated a vehicle burglary near Lafayette Avenue & Christine Street. A radio was reported taken from one of the vehicles.
11:19 AM Officer Taylor investigated a vehicle theft reported near Newark Boulevard & Jarvis Avenue.
5:40 PM CSO Vuong investigated a vehicle burglary on Newpark Mall Road. The rear door lock was forced open resulting in the loss of bags containing medical, camping, and sporting supplies.
8:30 PM Officer Jackman investigated a license plate theft near Locust Street & Sunset Avenue.
8:52 PM Officer Stevenson responded to a reported disturbance near Jarvis Avenue & Gateway Boulevard. A 27-year-old female was arrested for domestic violence and was booked into Santa Rita Jail.
9:25 PM Officer Swadener investigated a theft reported near Jarvis Avenue & Newark Boulevard.
