Update Regarding Police Activity in the 2800 Block of Elmhurst Circle
The below press release has been updated for clarity:
Yesterday evening, at approximately 6:30 pm, Fairfield police officers responded to the 2800 block of Elmhurst Circle, following calls regarding a disturbance in the area.
Multiple people reported a 58-year-old man had harmed family members, was causing damage to the exterior of their home and was threatening to burn it down. The man’s family members, a man and woman, had managed to escape to a neighboring home.
When responding officers arrived, callers reported the man was now in front of the residence armed with a shotgun and that additional, unsecured firearms were inside. The man, callers said, was verbally threatening to harm others.
The department’s Bearcat, an armored vehicle that permits officers to safely approach armed suspects, was deployed.
As officers were outside forming a de-escalation plan, the man - who had gone inside the home - pointed a gun at them from a second story window. An officer-involved shooting occurred and the man was struck before he retreated back from the window and into the interior of the home. No officers were injured.
The SWAT team responded and took over the scene.
The man was ultimately located in the home, deceased. His cause of death is yet to be confirmed and his name will not be released at this time.
The man’s two relatives were transported to a local hospital where they were treated for injuries inflicted by him prior to the shooting.
As is protocol following an officer involved shooting, the Solano County District Attorney’s Major Crimes Task Force was activated and will investigate the incident. No additional details are currently available, pending the conclusion of that investigation.
Any inquiries regarding this incident should be directed to the District Attorney’s Office.
