SJC OEM is coordinating with La Plata County on a Wildfire Exercise

Cascade Village, Mill Creek Lodge Estates, Know Your Neighbor, Cascade Creek Summer Homes, the Master Plan Ministries Retreat, or CDOT employee housing standalone cabins and homes.

We encourage residents South of Molas Pass to also sign up for La Plata County’s Emergency Alert System.

These two systems (Nixle and Code Red) deliver real-time emergency notifications such as wildfire evacuation alerts, road closures, and public safety messages directly to your phone or email. As demonstrated during the 416 Fire, the Ice Fire and numerous, wildfire events in this region incidents can escalate in complexity within just a matter of hours—driven by shifting winds, steep terrain, and dry fuels. Recognizing this risk, the emergency management agencies of both San Juan and La Plata counties coordinate closely to support communities that span county lines and are especially vulnerable during fast-moving wildfire events.
