HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – May 16, 2025- On May 5, 2025, Hollister Police Animal Care and Services received a report from deputies with the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office. According to the report, deputies had responded to a call for a dog with nails sticking out of his head. Deputies stood by with the animal in the area of Highway 101 and Betabel Road and requested the response of Animal Control Officers to assist with the safe confinement of the animal.
Animal Control Officers immediately responded to the area of Highway 101 and Betabel Road and were directed by deputies to where the dog was located.
After working through heavy brush in the area, Animal Control Officers were able to safely confine the animal and transport it to a local veterinary office for immediate treatment.
Animal Control Officers are currently seeking information regarding a potential owner for an intact male, red, Queensland Heeler type dog.
Hollister Police Animal Care and Services would like to remind the public that it is unlawful for any person having charge or custody of any animal, either as owner or otherwise, to subject any animal to needless suffering, inflict unnecessary cruelty upon an animal, or in any manner abuse an animal, or deprives an animal of necessary sustenance, drink, or shelter as it violates California PC 597. A violation of this subdivision is punishable as a felony by imprisonment, or by a fine of not more than twenty thousand dollars, or by both that fine and imprisonment.
Hollister Police Animal Care and Services would like to thank the San Benito County Sheriff’s Office for their continued partnership and standing by with the animal until Animal Control Officer’s were able to reach their location.
