From Tip to Takedown: Narcotic Arrests Made Thanks to Locals

Chief Mark Tinitigan would like to announce the arrests of three men that occurred on Wednesday, June 4th, 2025, stemming from a narcotics investigation into a local business.

During the current school year, the South River Police Department’s Juvenile/School Liaison, Detective Mark Kukoda, received numerous tips from concerned parents alleging borough businesses were selling cannabis products to children. An investigation into those tips led to a focus on “Stop N Go” convenience store located at 24A Main Street in the downtown area of South River.

The investigation culminated in the execution of a Superior Court authorized search warrant which uncovered distributable amounts of psilocybin (Mushrooms), synthetic cannabinoids, and marijuana. Additionally, drug paraphernalia and various untaxed goods were located.

The defendants were charged with Possession with Intent to Distribute a Schedule I Narcotic, Possession with Intent to Distribute Synthetic Cannabinoids, Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and Possession with Intent to Distribute Within 500 Feet of Public Housing. They are identified as 24-year-old Aman Tahir of Sayreville, 20-year-old Azad Tahir of Sayreville, and 58-year-old Muhammad Tahir of Forrest Hills, New York.

The investigation included members of the South River Police Department's Detective Bureau, Special Operations Unit, and Patrol Division along with the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the United States Department of the Treasury. Chief Tinitigan thanks the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office and the United States Department of Treasury for their valuable assistance and ongoing support during the course of this investigation.

Additionally, Chief Tinitigan praised his officers for their continued efforts in addressing the concerns of our community. He emphasizes the strong sense of teamwork and unity among departmental units working together toward a common goal. Lastly, he offered special thanks to the community for their vital role in voicing their concerns through the appropriate channels, noting that problem-solving partnerships with our citizens are key to preventing crime and enhancing quality of life throughout our community.

Also playing vital roles in this investigation were D/Sgt. Nale, Det. Molina, and P.O. Torres.

The case is still ongoing. Any community members with information may reach out to Detective Kukoda at 732-254-9002 ext 109.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against the above-named defendants are merely accusations and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
