San Juan County and Silverton Wildfire Safety – 4th of July
Be wildfire aware. Be wildfire safe. Protect what you love.

Welcome to the beautiful San Juan Mountains and the historic Town of Silverton. As you join us in celebrating Independence Day and our 150th Anniversary, please be a responsible and wildfire fire-safe community member  and visitor.

Here’s how to enjoy the holiday safely:

!!ENJOY The Public Fireworks Show by Silverton San Juan Volunteer Fire Authority after 9:30 PM!!

Personal Fireworks are ILLEGAL on all public lands — every forest, every campsite, every day.
Stage 1 Fire Restrictions are in effect on BLM lands in San Juan County. (North of Silverton)
USFS lands in San Juan County are NOT under restrictions, but fire danger remains high.
Surrounding counties (San Miguel, La Plata, Ouray) are ALL under Stage 1 Restrictions.

This weekend, all visitors and locals should:

  • No Personal fireworks

  • Campfires ONLY in developed campgrounds

  • NEVER leave a fire unattended

  • Pack out all trash and avoid parking on dry grass

  •  Stay on designated roads and trails
Let’s keep our mountains, forests, and communities safe. One spark is all it takes.
