During the early evening hours of Monday, July 7, 2025, officers were dispatched to a local residence following a report of a choking child. Upon arrival, officers were met with an unconscious one-year-old in severe respiratory distress with an obstructed airway.
Without hesitation, they acted quickly and decisively in a chaotic, emotionally charged environment. The officers demonstrated exceptional composure and teamwork as they began life-saving measures to clear the child’s airway.
Thanks to their swift response, the child’s airway was cleared and the child was able to be transported to a nearby hospital for further medical evaluation and treatment. The child is expected to make a full recovery.
Chief Mark Tinitigan praised the actions of the responding officers, calling each one vital to the successful outcome. He identified the responding officers as Det. Patrick Molina, Det. Mark Kukoda, Ptl. Nicholas Swineford, and Ptl. Jonathan Torres. Chief Tinitigan credited the department’s ongoing first aid training and the officers’ strong sense of teamwork. He stated, “There was no hesitation. Each officer knew their role, acted immediately, and worked together to save a child’s life.” He added, “These officers are true heroes. Their quick thinking and training made all the difference in a moment where every second counted. We are incredibly thankful the child is safe and on the road to recovery”.
