City of Sonora Community Update – Flood Recovery Assistance

City of Sonora Community Update – Flood Recovery Assistance
Date: July 23, 2025
Subject: Ongoing Support Following the July 13 Flood Event

The City of Sonora continues to assist residents affected by the July 13, 2025 flood event in Sutton County. Please review the following information if you or someone you know was impacted:

Damage Reporting – TDEM iSTAT Survey
We strongly encourage all homeowners and property owners to report flood damage using the TDEM’s iSTAT self-reporting tool.

This information is critical in helping us determine the extent of community-wide impact.

Need help completing the form?
Call City Hall at 325-387-2558 for assistance.

Debris Disposal
Flood-related debris can be discarded at our designated debris site.
To ensure safe and orderly access:
•             Please call City Hall at 325-387-2558 to schedule a time.
•             Debris site hours: Monday–Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM
•             Our staff will provide guidance on acceptable items and directions.
Reminder: We cannot accept batteries, tires, refrigerators, chemicals, flammables, or some electronic devices.

Cleaning Supply Distribution
Cleaning supplies are available at City Hall for residents affected by the flood.
Items include:
•             Paper towels
•             Trash bags
•             Latex & work gloves
•             Eye protection
•             Masks
•             General cleaning agents
Come by during business hours to pick up what you need.

Volunteer Cleanup Assistance
If you need help cleaning out your home or property, we have non-governmental partners willing to assist.

Please contact City Hall so we can coordinate volunteer teams to assist at your location.

Dehumidifiers Available
We currently have approximately 20 dehumidifiers donated through the Texas Division of Emergency Management. These are available for those needing to dry out their homes at no charge.

 You may:
•             Call to request delivery, or
•             Pick one up at City Hall

Note: Even if your home had only an inch or two of water, residual moisture may still exist in walls and support structures. Removing water-damaged material is vital to preventing mold and long-term health issues.
