Extreme Heat Warning: Cooling Center Open in Asbury Park
Due to the ongoing extreme heat, the Asbury Park Senior Center will be open as a cooling center today (Monday-Wednesday, July 28-30, 2025) from 9:00AM to 6:00PM.
Location:
Asbury Park Senior Center
1201 Springwood Avenue
Second Floor
Asbury Park, NJ 07712
With temperatures in the upper 90s and humidity making it feel like over 100°F, all residents—especially seniors and those without air conditioning—are encouraged to stop by and cool off.
Heat Safety Reminders:
- Limit time outdoors and stay in air-conditioned spaces when possible.
- Drink plenty of water and check on elderly neighbors or those with health concerns.
- Never leave children or pets in parked cars, even for a short time.
- Avoid strenuous outdoor activity, especially during the hottest parts of the day.
- If you must go outside, wear sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat.
- Know the signs of heat-related illness: dizziness, nausea, headache, rapid pulse, or confusion. Seek medical help immediately if symptoms occur.
- Avoid walking dogs during peak heat hours. Pavement temperatures can exceed 140°F and cause serious injuries to their paws. If you must walk your dog, stick to grass and walk early in the morning or after sunset.
In an emergency, call 9-1-1.
Stay cool and safe. For more information, contact Social Services at 732-502-4528 or after hours call APPD at 732-774-1300.
