Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over
Let’s Work Together to End Drunk Driving!

August 15-September 1
The US Department of Transportation's National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) is teaming up with local law enforcement for the Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over high-visibility enforcement campaign.
The mission: To deter impaired driving and prevent the tragedies we've seen in previous Labor Day weekends.
In 2023, during Labor Day weekend:
511 lives were lost in traffic crashes nationwide
36% (185) involved a drunk driver
68% of impaired drivers killed had a BAC of .15 or higher
Among drivers, 18-34, 45% of those killed were drunk (BAC .08+)
"We want our community members to understand that it's our first priority to keep people safe, so we're asking everyone to plan ahead if they know they'll be out drinking," said Sergeant Pourfarhani.
"The Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign is an awareness effort to get the message out that drunk driving is illegal and kills. Let's make this a partnership between law enforcement and drivers: Help us protect the community and put an end to this dangerous behavior."
Plan ahead:
Secure a designated sober driver.
Call a taxi or rideshare.
Never drive impaired - your judgment is compromised.
If you can't drive, hand over your keys to someone sober.
Be a true friend: take the keys from someone who's been drinking and help them get home safely.
If you spot a drunk driver: Call Novato Police at 415-897-4361.
Dial 911 in an emergency.
