Increased Vehicle Theft activity in the City of Huntington Woods.
The Huntington Woods Public Safety Department has observed an increase in the number of vehicle thefts and larcenies from vehicles in our city.
In most incidents, criminals are rummaging through unlocked vehicles with the intention of stealing property. These bad actors, once inside the vehicles, discover that the vehicle key fobs are left in the vehicle, and then they steal the vehicle instead of just the contents.
The Public Safety Department has stepped up its patrols and is on the lookout to crack down on these crimes of opportunity, but we could use your help too!
We are asking our residents to lock their vehicles and not keep items of value inside them, particularly vehicle key fobs. We are also asking any resident with security cameras already installed to make sure they are activated and recording. If you currently do not have security cameras installed, please consider doing so. Residential security cameras have been extremely helpful in both deterring crimes and aiding our investigations.
If you see anything suspicious, please contact the Huntington Woods Public Safety Department as soon as possible.
