City of Ferris Statement on Flags at Half-Staff Honoring Lee Longino
At approximately 9:30 a.m. today, the City of Ferris sent a formal request to the Office of the Governor asking for a jurisdictionally limited order to lower flags in honor of Mr. Lee Longino’s passing. At 10:45 a.m., the Governor’s Office informed the City Manager that an order will be granted authorizing all Ferris ISD properties to fly flags at half-staff today and on the date of Mr. Longino’s funeral.
The order also allows surrounding political subdivisions, including the City of Ferris, to fly flags at half-staff on the same dates. In response, the City Manager has directed all City of Ferris facilities to lower flags immediately and to do so again on the funeral date.
Mr. Longino served on the Ferris ISD Board of Trustees for more than forty years and was a pillar of this community. As the owner of a local funeral home, he graciously served families across the City of Ferris and the students of Ferris ISD for many years. We are grateful for his decades of service and the steady leadership he provided to our schools and our city.
Our hearts are with the Longino family, Ferris ISD, and the entire community. We offer our prayers for comfort and peace to all who mourn. For those who find comfort in Scripture: “Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.” - Matthew 5:4
City facilities and Ferris ISD campuses will follow standard half-staff procedures from sunrise to sunset today and on the date of his funeral, as authorized by the Governor’s order.
We also extend our appreciation to the Governor’s Office for its prompt response, which allows us to honor Mr. Longino in accordance with state and federal law.
