***DO NOT SEND MONEY USING ONLINE APP BASED SERVICES AND DO NOT PUT MONEY IN AN ATM TYPE MACHINE***
The Stokes County Sheriff’s Office has received information about citizens being contacted by someone proclaiming themselves to be Sheriff Joey Lemons by way of a cloned Facebook page using Sheriff Joey Lemons name and photo. This scam consists of contacting you by using Facebook messenger and requesting money. When offering to go to the Sheriff’s Office to resolve the issue, they may tell you that you can’t. This is similar to the jury duty scam. Law enforcement WILL NOT Facebook message or call to solicit money to pay a fine or bond. In some cases, they are emailing the intended target a copy of a fictitious arrest warrant. When in doubt, call your local law enforcement to verify the authenticity of the allegation. Please share this information with your loved ones that may not see this, as these criminals are good at intimidating people.
