DUI / Drivers License Checkpoint
INCIDENT: Traffic Safety Checkpoint
DATE/TIME: Friday, January 9, 2026
Checkpoint 9:00PM – 2:00A.M.
LOCATION: DUI / CDL Checkpoint at Mission Blvd and Curran Pl
UNIT: Traffic Services
Pomona Calif. – Pomona Police Department cited 36 drivers for operating a motor vehicle unlicensed or with a suspended / revoked license and arrested 1 driver for being under the influence of an alcholic beverage. Additionally, 1477 vehicles were screened resulting in 6 vehicle impounds. The Checkpoint was held at Mission Blvd and Curran Pl between the hours of 9:00 p.m. and 2:00 a.m.
DUI Checkpoints are placed in locations based on collision statistics and frequency of DUI arrests. In California, where approximately 30 percent of all traffic fatalities involve an impaired driver, checkpoints play an especially critical role in comprehensive traffic safety efforts. During 2024 and 2025, the Pomona Police Department recorded 405 DUI arrests and 211 crashes involving an impaired driver. There were a total of 31 fatalites and 74 injuries amongst those 211 crashes.
Drivers caught driving impaired and charged with DUI can expect the impact of a DUI arrest to be approximately $13,500. This includes fines, fees, DUI classes, license suspension and other expenses not to mention possible jail time.
Pomona Police Department reminds drivers that “DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze.” Prescription drugs, particularly those with a driving or operating machinery warning on the label, can impair and result in a DUI. Marijuana can also be impairing, especially in combination with alcohol or other drugs.
Pomona Police Department will be conducting other DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols in our ongoing commitment to take suspected impaired drivers off our streets and highways, ultimately lowering the risk for deaths and injuries.
Funding for this checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
