Friday, January 16, 2026, Beaufort County Sheriff’s Office arrested Tyre Joe Atkins, 21, of St. Helena Island. Atkins was charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Felon in Possession of a Weapon, Possession of a Weapon During the Commission of a Violent Crime, and Aggravated Breach of Peace.
Atkins was identified as the subject in the murder of 20-year-old Ty Haskell Jenkins IV, of St. Helena Island. The shooting occurred in Independence Mobile Home Park, 60 Shanklin Rd. in Burton, on September 10, 2025.
The circumstances that led to that incident are still under investigation. Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the lead investigator, Master Sergeant Duncan, 843-255-3418.
