A winter storm is expected to begin early Sunday morning and continue through early Monday. Weather forecasts are calling for significant snow accumulation throughout the area. Snow is expected to change to sleet and/or freezing rain on Sunday afternoon which will lead to icy conditions. Snowfall is expected to accumulate on the roadways throughout Sunday. Due to the heavy snow and freezing rain, downed trees and power lines could result in power outages. Following the storm, very cold temperatures will be in place throughout next week. Take the time now to prepare for the storm and the cold weather that will follow.
Residents are asked to move their vehicles off the roadway and into driveways to allow DPW to plow more efficiently. If you do not have a driveway, you can utilize the borough parking lots throughout town such as Dempsey Park, Maclearie Park, the Belmar Marina, and Belmar Municipal Lot for Belmar residents and Behrman Park for Lake Como residents. Snow ordinances can be found on the Belmar or Lake Como Borough websites, or you can call the Belmar Police if you have any questions.
Following the storm, be sure to shovel your sidewalks and please refrain from putting snow back into the roadway. Lastly, if you have a fire hydrant near your property, the fire department is asking your assistance to clean out the area of the fire hydrant to help their response in an emergency.
