News Release: Resident Interrupts Evening Burglary

Palo Alto, CA – Police are investigating the burglary of an occupied home Thursday night.   The suspects are unknown and at large.

On Thursday, February 5, 2026, at about 8:36 p.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a burglary that had just occurred at a residence on the 400 block of Maple Street. The resident, a man in his sixties, was in the basement and heard a noise in the residence.  The man walked upstairs to see what caused the noise.  The man saw a person standing in the dark that he did not recognize.  The man then retreated downstairs and called police.  The man heard the suspect yell and saw 3 suspects run out the front door.  The Palo Alto Police arrived within minutes and canvased the area.

The investigation revealed that the unknown suspects had entered the home by smashing a rear sliding glass door. It is unknown what was taken at this time.  The suspects left the area prior to police arrival.

Officers reviewed security camera footage in the area and determined that an unknown number of suspects had arrived and fled in a SUV.  Detectives are actively investigating this incident.
