South River Ranked 3rd Safest City in NJ

South River Ranked 3rd Safest City in New Jersey by SafeWise Study

Chief Mark Tinitigan is proud to announce that a recent study conducted by SafeWise has ranked South River as the third safest City in the State of New Jersey.

The annual report analyzes FBI crime statistics and statewide safety data to identify the safest communities. This recognition reflects the department’s continued commitment to proactive policing, strategic enforcement, and strong community partnerships.

“This achievement is a direct result of the hard work and professionalism of our officers”, said Chief Tinitigan. “Every division in this department plays a critical role in keeping our community safe, and I could not be prouder of their dedication.”

The Uniformed Patrol Division is the backbone of our Police Department with officers that engage in proactive enforcement strategies, high-visibility patrols, and targeted initiatives designed to deter criminal activity before it occurs.

The Detective Bureau not only conducts follow-up investigations to identify and charge suspects, but also works proactively by analyzing trends, developing intelligence, and collaborating with other divisions to prevent crime. Traffic Operations plays a vital role in roadway safety by remaining focused on addressing aggressive driving, DWI enforcement, crash investigations, and educational outreach aimed at reducing crashes and protecting residents. Community Policing continues to strengthen relationships with our residents through community events, school programs, neighborhood engagement, and open communication. Our Dispatchers serve as the critical link between the public and responding officers. These types of partnerships are instrumental in maintaining public trust and public safety.

“Our strength is our collaboration”, Chief Tinitigan added. “Our Command Staff has made it a point to have our various units work together to create a product that better serves our community. While each unit has distinct responsibilities, the department’s success is built on teamwork which is ultimately what truly sets us apart.”

Chief Tinitigan recognizes and appreciates the continued support of Mayor Peter Guindi and the entire Borough Council, whose commitment to public safety ensures officers have the resources, training, and equipment necessary to perform their duties at the highest level.

In closing, Chief Tinitigan expressed appreciation for the continued partnership and support of the South River community, emphasizing that this recognition is not only reflective of the Police Department, but also reflective of the strength of the community that actively partners with its Police Department to keep South River safe.
