Advisory

Seal Beach - Heavy rain and wind expected Monday through Wednesday

Seal Beach, CA – The City of Seal Beach is closely monitoring a significant storm system expected to bring periods of heavy rain and potential localized flooding from Monday through Wednesday. City departments, including Marine Safety, Public Works, the Orange County Fire Authority, and the Police Department, are coordinating in advance of the storm and will respond to impacts as conditions develop.

Residents are strongly encouraged to prepare now by clearing storm drains near their property, securing outdoor items, monitoring official weather updates, and avoiding flooded roadways. Taking proactive steps today will help reduce storm-related impacts and keep our community safe.

• Have pre-filled sandbags available for immediate use at your home.
• On nights before trash pick-up days, place trash cans 12” away from the curb so the gutter is not obstructed during rain events. If gutters fill with rushing water, they can knock over cans and carry garbage down to block storm drain entrances. Do not park cars in front of the trash cans, so they are accessible for collection.
• If possible, park your cars in your driveway rather than the street, to protect your engine and electronics. Engine up towards garage door is safest. This is especially helpful if you live near areas prone to water pooling, such as College Park East and Old Town.
• Please, wait to drive in flooded areas until floodwater recedes. Driving on flooded streets causes wakes to form (even at low speeds) and pushes water up onto parked cars and into garages.
• For everyone’s safety, please keep children and pets out of floodwater. Even shallow water can contain debris or bacteria that may cause illness.
• Monitor the Seal Beach Police Department's social media outlets (Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter) for information updates.
• If you see fallen trees or tree branches, call the Seal Beach Police Department non-emergency line at (562) 594-7232

Sandbagging Locations:

The City of Seal Beach and OCFA have established multiple locations where residents can have complimentary sand and empty sandbags. The sandbag locations are:

• Fire Station 48 - 3131 Northgate Road (at the 405 freeway) *
• Arbor Park - 4665 Lampson Avenue
