A MESSAGE FROM MAYOR PETER GUINDI

Dear Residents,

As you know, another major winter storm is approaching our area. Heavy snowfall, windy conditions, and coastal flooding are anticipated.

Ahead of the storm, I’ll once again be meeting with borough public safety officials, emergency management staff, and DPW personnel to ensure South River is prepared and essential services remain uninterrupted.

Before the storm, vehicles must be removed from Snow Emergency Streets. If you park on other streets, please remove your vehicles from the roadway, if possible, to allow for more efficient plowing.

During the storm, travel is strongly discouraged. Remember to check in on elderly neighbors and family.

During the storm, South River Department of Public Works crews will be working hard under difficult conditions.

As snow accumulates, you will typically notice plow crews making a single pass on your street as they prioritize keeping a single lane open to allow for emergency access. Once the storm winds down, crews then begin to perform additional passes to widen access.

Streets are plowed beginning with main roads followed by access roads, side streets, and dead ends. This process takes time and our DPW crews work around the clock to make it happen. Please be patient as they work to reach all streets.

Keep in mind plow crews will make multiple passes on your street which may affect shoveling you have already completed. If they pass after you shovel, it may become necessary to shovel again.

You can help our plow crews work faster and more efficiently by not driving during the storm, removing cars from the road, removing any objects from the road (trash cans, basketball hoops, etc.), not shoveling or blowing snow back into the street.

I encourage you to monitor NIXLE text and email alerts, South River Borough’s social media pages, and South River Police Department’s social media pages for additional information and updates.

Stay safe and let’s work together to help our DPW crews.

Peter S. Guindi

Mayor, Borough of South River
