The search for 63-year-old Richard A. Phelps of Daufuskie Island has come to an unfortunate end.
Mr. Phelps was located earlier today, Tuesday, February 24, 2026.
He was reported missing by family members on February 20 after he did not return home the night prior. He was last seen on Daufuskie Island.
The cause of death is pending an autopsy, according to the Beaufort County Coroner’s Office. The circumstances surrounding his death remain under investigation.
