The Palo Alto Police Department is pleased to announce that effective today, it is launching a new system that includes a free mobile app to allow members of the public to report information about crimes anonymously to the department.
The app, "Palo Alto PD Tips", is available now to download for free via the App Store or Google Play. Users are able to submit video and images as part of their tip. Members of the public can also send us an anonymous text message by texting the keyword PAPD and the tip to 847411. Watch this video on how to use the app.
Tips will be reviewed by our agency personnel, who may respond to ask for more details and can continue the conversation with you either via the app or via text. Your contact information is never transmitted to our agency, so even these two-way follow-up conversations remain anonymous.
It is very important to note that because this new system is not monitored 24/7 or in real-time, it should not be used if you are reporting a crime in progress, an emergency, or any situation that merits an in-person immediate response from a police officer. In these circumstances, the best way to report suspicious activity to us is to promptly call our 24-hour dispatch center at (650) 329-2413, or 9-1-1 if it is an emergency. You can request to remain anonymous to the Public Safety Dispatcher who answers your call.
