Unlicensed Dentist Investigation & Arrest

Unlicensed Dentistry Investigation Leads to Search Warrant & Arrest

Chief Mark Tinitigan announces that an extensive investigation conducted by the South River Police Department resulted in the execution of a Superior Court authorized search warrant and the arrest of a local woman. The warrant was executed during the afternoon hours of Thursday, February 19, 2026, at a business located in the downtown Main Street area.

Initial Incident

In September of 2025, Sergeant Peter Roselli and Officer Peter Szukics responded to headquarters for what initially appeared to be a “routine” call stemming from a dispute between two individuals. During the course of taking the report and conducting a follow-up investigation, the officers uncovered information suggesting dental procedures may have been performed within the Borough by an individual not properly licensed. While Officer Szukics completed the necessary report regarding the original dispute, both he and Sgt. Roselli recognized the seriousness of their additional observations and continued to pursue further investigation.

Investigation

On their following shift, Sgt. Roselli and Officer Szukics conducted an additional follow-up investigation regarding the legitimacy of the dental business and coordinated with the Detective Bureau regarding their suspicions. The investigation was assigned to Detective Patrick Molina.

Over the ensuing months, Det. Molina worked diligently to gather evidence and monitor the matter. Through his investigation, it was determined that Ana Amato, a 49-year-old resident of Old Bridge, was allegedly practicing dentistry without being licensed nor authorized to do so.

Detective Sergeant Kenneth Nale and Detective Travis Taylor assisted throughout the investigation, contributing to the development of facts that ultimately led to the issuance of a Superior Court authorized search warrant and the filing of criminal charges.

Execution of Search Warrant

On February 19, 2026, members of the South River Police Department executed a Superior Court  authorized search warrant at 30 Main Street, Suite 7 in South River, New Jersey. As a result of the search, Ana Amato was placed under arrest and multiple items were seized as evidence.

Amato was charged with:
  • Unlawful Practice of Dentistry (3rd  Degree)
  • Aggravated Assault (2nd Degree)
  • Financial Facilitation of Criminal Activity (3rd Degree)
Chief’s Statement

Chief Tinitigan praised the professionalism and instincts of the responding officers. “What began as a routine dispute call demonstrated exactly why thorough police work matters. Sgt. Roselli and Officer Szukics recognized that something did not add up and took the extra steps necessary to protect the public.” He further commended the Detective Bureau for their sustained efforts. “Det. Molina’s persistence and attention to detail were instrumental in seeing this investigation through and securing these charges.”

The Chief concluded that this is certainly not the type of case we see every day, but affirmed our officers approach every call – routine or not – with the same level of professionalism and commitment to public safety.

Ongoing Investigation

This case is still active and ongoing. Any community members with additional information that can aid this investigation are urged to contact Det. Molina at 732-254-9002 ext. 113.

As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against Ana Amato are merely accusations, and she is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
