ANIMAL CRUELTY INVESTIGATION

HOLLISTER, CALIFORNIA – March 14, 2026 – Hollister Police Animal Care and Services arrested one adult for Felony Animal Cruelty Charges.

On March 4, 2026, Animal Control Officers were dispatched to the 400 block of Briggs Road, located within San Benito County’s Jurisdiction, for a call regarding a Cane Corso type dog, and a Pitbull type dog found within a trailer.

According to the reporting party, an eviction notice was served to the occupants of the trailer two days prior. The dogs were discovered only after a cleaning crew entered the trailer.  The dogs were found in an approximately five-foot by four-foot bathroom within the trailer, covered in urine and feces, and without access to food or water. Both dogs were safely removed from the property and transported to a local veterinary office for immediate medical evaluation and treatment. The treating veterinarian determined that the animals had likely been without food for more than two days based on their physical condition and body weight. The dogs were prescribed medication and placed on a carefully managed feeding plan due to their state of malnutrition.  Following their examinations, both dogs were transported to the Hollister Animal Shelter, where they are currently receiving care and monitoring.  Kade Lester (20 years old) was arrested for felony animal cruelty.

Hollister Police Animal Care and Services would like to remind the public that animal cruelty, including depriving an animal of necessary food, water, and care, is punishable as a felony under California Penal Code 597.

Hollister Police Animal Care and Services would like to thank the concerned community members who came forward and reported the incident. Public awareness and participation are vital in ensuring animals are protected from cruelty and neglect. Anyone with information regarding this incident is requested to contact Animal Control Officers at 831-636-4320.
