Update: Jumping Branch Wildfire – McDowell County
The Jumping Branch Fire, located off Locust Cove Road, is currently burning north of Locust Cove Road and south of Sugar Cove Road in McDowell County.
The wildfire is estimated at 175 acres and remains at 0% containment. Fire crews will remain on the scene throughout the night.
Nearly 200 firefighters battled the fire on Sunday with the assistance of multiple aircraft. Thanks to these efforts, no structures have been lost.
A statewide burn ban remains in effect. Outdoor burning is not permitted. Residents are urged to report any outside fires by dialing 911.
