"Click it or Ticket" Awareness Campaign
Beginning May 11th and running through May 31st, law enforcement agencies nationwide will be cracking down on unbuckled motorists and passengers as part of the national "Click it or Ticket" campaign. Although seat belt laws are enforced year round, this campaign is meant to draw additional attention to and raise awareness of the risks of not using seat belts.
The annual initiative includes high visibility law enforcement seat belt checkpoints and saturation patrols, as well as advertising and media outreach designed to ensure that drivers and passengers recognize the life-saving value of seat belts.
In 2024, 9,758 passenger vehicle occupants killed in crashes were not wearing seat belts. Using a seat belt is the simplest way for a driver and his or her passengers to protect themselves while travelling. Seat belts reduce the risk of fatal injury to front-seat passenger car occupants by 45% and moderate-to-critical injuries by 50%.
