Franklin Township to Participate in Nationwide Reading of the Declaration of Independence
Franklin Township invites residents to gather at the Township Community Gazebo on Wednesday, July 8, 2026, at 6:00 PM for "Sharing the Spirit of America," a nationwide reading of the Declaration of Independence commemorating America's 250th Anniversary.
The event will take place at the Franklin Township Community Gazebo, 475 DeMott Lane, Somerset, and is free and open to the public.
On July 8, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was publicly read to the people for the first time. Now, 250 years later, communities across all 50 states, U.S. territories, and Washington, D.C. will come together to read the historic document simultaneously, creating a shared national moment that connects Americans from coast to coast.
The event celebrates the enduring principles expressed in the Declaration of Independence, including the belief that all people are created equal and are endowed with the rights of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.
Despite spanning thousands of miles and multiple time zones, Americans across the nation will participate together, honoring the same historic day that marked the first public reading of the Declaration in 1776.
