News Release: Morning Burglary Interrupted by Resident

Police arrested a woman on Monday afternoon following a residential burglary that was committed earlier in the morning.

On Monday, July 6, 2026, at about 7:40 a.m., our 24-hour dispatch center received a call reporting a burglary that had just occurred at a residence on the 1100 block of Ramona Street. The resident, a woman in her fifties, went to the kitchen and saw a person standing in the kitchen that she did not recognize.  The woman told the suspect to leave and then called police.  The suspect fled the scene with a backpack containing some of the woman’s belongings.  The Palo Alto Police arrived within minutes and canvased the area but were unable to locate the suspect.  Later in the afternoon, a person called the 24-hour dispatch center to report a woman that was trying to get into locked cars on the 1800 block of Middlefield Road.  The Palo Alto Police responded and located the suspect.  The suspect was detained without incident and found to be the same suspect that committed the earlier burglary.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had entered the home through an unlocked rear door to the residence.  The victim reported approximately $1000 worth of personal items missing, these items were later recovered.

Police booked 54-year-old Funda Yilmaz from the state of Georgia into the Santa Clara County Main Jail for residential burglary (a felony).
