Lewdness investigation leads to multiple charges. South River Police Department requesting public assistance.
Chief Mark Tinitigan announces that an extensive investigation by the South River Police Department has resulted in multiple charges against a New York man, who is currently wanted on an active arrest warrant.
Between July 2nd and July 7th, 2026, the South River Police Department received multiple reports of a male exposing himself in public to members of our community. Most of the incidents occurred just off Whitehead Avenue near Magiera Street, Spring Street, and Jeffrie Avenue.
A follow-up investigation was led by Detective Travis Taylor with the assistance of Detective Jonathan Torres. The Detectives utilized surveillance provided by local residents to develop a suspect. Through further coordination with a/Sgt. Molina, the Patrol Division, and NYPD, the suspect was positively identified as a 21-year-old male, Anthony Lopez.
Lopez has been charged with five counts of lewdness, and an active warrant has been issued for his arrest. Detectives believe Lopez is currently residing in New York City and was visiting South River during the above incidents.
Detectives also believe there may be additional victims who have not previously reported prior incidents involving Lopez. The South River Police Department is asking anyone who may have been a victim or witness to a similar incident, or anyone with information regarding Lopez’s whereabouts, to contact D/Sgt. Chief Tinitigan praises the officers for their work and said, “This investigation is a great example of what can be accomplished through teamwork, persistence, and strong community partnerships”. Additionally, Chief Tinitigan thanked the officers involved, New York City Police Department, and the residents who provided valuable surveillance footage.
As is the case with all criminal defendants, the charges against the above-named defendant are merely accusations, and they are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
