A joint message from South River Parks & Recreation, South River Police Department, and Borough of South River
Our parks belong to all of us. We need our community’s help taking care of them.
Over the past week, we have seen examples of damage to newly installed recreation equipment. At Sheinfine Park, children were observed climbing and jumping on basketball rims in an apparent attempt to break them. At Varga Park, most of the new soccer goals were found damaged - less than a week after being placed in the park for our Recreation soccer program and for the community as a whole to enjoy. Additionally, children were found riding e-bikes on the new playground at Volunteers Park within a week of it being opened.
These improvements are made for our entire community. They require significant time, effort, and taxpayer resources, and intentional damage means those resources must be spent on repairs instead of future improvements.
We are asking parents and guardians to please speak with your children about respecting our parks, playgrounds, fields, basketball courts, soccer equipment, and all of the public facilities provided for our community.
If you witness someone intentionally damaging public property, please report it to the South River Police Department using the non-emergency number. Your information can help us identify those responsible and hold them accountable.
We cannot be everywhere at once. Protecting our parks is a community responsibility, and it takes all of us working together.
We want to continue investing in better parks, recreation facilities, and programs for the children and families of South River. Please help us protect what we have so we can continue building something even better.
