UPDATE: Simi Valley Officer-Involved Shooting 7.21.26 – Video Released
The Simi Valley Police Department is releasing video footage related to the officer-involved shooting that occurred on July 21, 2026, near the 2500 block of Dusan Street. The release is being made pursuant to California Assembly Bill 748 (AB 748) and applicable provisions of the California Public Records Act.
AB 748 requires the release of certain video and audio recordings involving critical incidents, including officer-involved shootings, subject to statutory exceptions and permitted redactions. In accordance with these requirements, the Department is releasing video footage associated with this incident as part of its ongoing commitment to transparency and compliance with California law.
In addition to the video footage, the Department is releasing the names and years of law enforcement service of the officers involved in the shooting:
- Sergeant Gene Colato – 17 years
- Senior Officer Bryan Sarfaty – 14 years
- Officer Brett Suliga – 11 years
- Officer Evan Hutchins – 7 months
- Officer Edward Brockschmidt – 4 months
As previously reported, the incident remains under investigation. The Simi Valley Police Department continues to cooperate fully with the California Department of Justice and is providing all necessary information, evidence, and resources to support a thorough, objective, and independent review.
