SEAL BEACH, Calif. - The City of Seal Beach will participate in the annual regional test of AlertOC, Orange County's emergency mass notification system, on Wednesday, September 16, 2026, at 10 a.m. A test emergency alert will be sent to registered mobile devices and home and business phones.

The exercise will simulate a large-scale, multi-jurisdictional emergency requiring a high volume of notifications to be sent simultaneously throughout Orange County. This is the 15th annual regional test of the system and will include participating Orange County cities and the county's unincorporated areas. The primary goal is to test AlertOC's ability to deliver emergency messages quickly and reliably to residents and businesses.

"We should all take action to prepare for emergencies and disasters that can affect our communities," said Sergeant Brian Gray, Emergency Services Coordinator for the City of Seal Beach. "This annual test gives residents and businesses an opportunity to confirm they are registered and can receive critical information when it matters most."

Emergencies such as wildfires, earthquakes and hazardous materials incidents can develop rapidly, forcing evacuations and road closures with little warning. "We encourage every resident and business to register multiple contact methods, keep that information current, and make emergency preparedness part of their routine," said Chief of Police Michael Henderson.

AlertOC is the county's mass notification system used by the City of Seal Beach and the Seal Beach Police Department to issue emergency and other time-sensitive government messages to residents and businesses. Residential and commercial landline phone numbers are included in the AlertOC system. AlertOC is a critical link for residents to learn about required actions, including evacuation and shelter-in-place instructions.

AlertOC allows individuals to register multiple contact methods and addresses. Registering cell phones, text numbers and alternate numbers increases the City's ability to reach community members within minutes. Landlines, cell phones, text numbers and email addresses can be incorporated into a single notification system.
