Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety Conducts Minor Decoy Alcohol Sting Operation

ROHNERT PARK, CA – On Monday, October 19, 2026, officers from the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety and the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control conducted a minor decoy operation in an effort to combat the availability of alcoholic beverages to minors.

This operation targets businesses that sell alcoholic beverages to minors and department decoys. The goals are to reduce underage drinking and DUI-associated injuries, fatalities, and/or property damage, and to reduce youth access to alcoholic beverages through interventions, enforcement, and the increased presence of local law enforcement.

The minor decoys were provided money and instructed to attempt to purchase alcohol from the business. If the minor decoy’s identification was requested or their age was asked, they were instructed to provide them with their identification and answer truthfully. If the business failed to check ID or agreed to sell alcohol, the decoy was instructed to simply hand them the money and purchase the alcohol.

During the operation, 12 businesses in Rohnert Park were contacted, including several local gas stations, liquor stores, grocery stores, and large retail stores. All 12 businesses successfully refused to sell alcohol to the minor decoys.

As part of the program, the Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety works collaboratively with the Cotati Police Department and Sonoma State University Police Department to address alcohol-related concerns, issues, and enforcement in their jurisdictions.

This project is part of the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control’s Alcohol Policing Partnership Program and will run through June 2027.

We would like to thank the California Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control for the grant and look forward to working together to ensure the legal sale and safe consumption of alcohol in the community.
