Two suspects arrested for a home invasion robbery
On May 26, 2017, just before midnight, Gilroy Police officers responded to a report a suspicious circumstance in the 7700 block of Curry Drive, in Gilroy. Two males not known to the area were reportedly loading items from a residence into a black vehicle parked out front.
Officers arrived and detained one of the subjects inside the car. He was identified as Jon Kovacs (50). The other subject, identified as James Hall (37), was outside the car and he ran when contacted by police. He was apprehended a short time later by a Gilroy Police Department K-9. Mr. Hall was found to be in possession of an empty gun holster and ammunition. Police later located a loaded semi-automatic firearm within Mr. Hall’s flight path.
During the subsequent investigation, it was learned Mr. Kovacs was an estranged relative of the Victim. Mr. Kovacs and Mr. Hall entered through the front door of the residence without being invited inside. The Victim was at home with a small child. Once inside, they demanded money and ransacked the house. The Victim complied to ensure his safety and the safety of the child.
The residents were not physically harmed during this incident. Mr. Kovacs was booked for several charges including robbery, burglary, criminal threats, and conspiracy to commit a crime. Mr. Hall was booked for the same charges, with the addition of resisting arrest and possession of a loaded firearm. Mr. Hall also had several outstanding warrants for his arrest.
