URGENT - Borough of Leonia - Boil Water Advisory - Effective Immediately

Fellow Leonians:

At 9:16 PM this evening I received a call from a senior representative of Veolia (formerly Suez water). Following is the information that was provided:

Due to a water main break and resulting testing failure, a boil water advisory is in effect for seven southeast Bergen municipalities, including the Borough of Leonia. Customers should boil their water for one minute for the following:

  • Drinking
  • Cooking or Baking
  • Making ice cubes
  • Taking medication
  • Brushing teeth
  • Washing food
  • Mixing baby formula or food
  • Mixing juices or drinks
  • Feeding pets
  • All other consumption
Water does NOT have to be boiled for showering or washing dishes and clothes.

Veolia will provide updates as appropriate, but the representative indicated that the boil water advisory will be in effect for a minimum of 24 hours, and most likely for closer to 36 hours, before it is lifted, as the NJ Department of Environmental Protection & Energy must complete retesting of water samples and provide their approval in order for the advisory to be lifted.

We will continue to communicate via Nixle as additional information is received. Please take appropriate action to ensure your safety by boiling water if being used as described herein.
