INCIDENT NARRATIVE:
On Monday May 1, 2023 around 11:08 a.m., Amsterdam Police responded to the scene of a bicyclist that was struck by a motor vehicle on Guy Park Avenue in Amsterdam. The Amsterdam Fire Department transported the victim to Albany Medical Center via ambulance. Law Enforcement canvassed the area for witnesses and surveillance video which revealed that a gray Volkswagen struck the bicyclist and then left the scene of the accident.
A social media post was circulated to help officers locate the suspect vehicle. A short time later, with the public’s assistance, the vehicle was located after attempts were made to hide it behind a residence in Amsterdam. Amsterdam Police detectives prepared and were granted a warrant for the search and seizure of the suspect vehicle as part of the continuing investigation.
Amsterdam Police detectives learned that prior to striking the bicyclist on Guy Park Avenue that Anthony T. Kelly and Greggory T. Pelosi had followed the victim throughout the City of Amsterdam attempting to assault the victim. This information along with other investigative findings substantiates the pattern of fact that the collision of the motor vehicle into the bicyclist was a deliberate act by the vehicle’s operator Anthony T. Kelly.
On May 5, 2023, the Honorable Judge Lisa W. Lorman signed arrest warrants for Anthony T. Kelly and Greggory T. Pelosi. On May 7, 2023 just before 2:30 a.m., Amsterdam Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop for speeding and located Kelly and Pelosi inside the vehicle. Kelly and Pelosi were taken into custody on the active warrants and held pending arraignment.
Greggory T. Pelosi was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court on the charges of Attempted Assault 1st, Reckless Endangerment 1st, Stalking 1st, Conspiracy 4th, Possession of a Weapon 4th and Facilitating Aggravated Unlicensed Operation. Pelosi was remanded to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $10K cash, $50K bond.
Anthony T. Kelly was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court on the charges of Attempted Assault 1st, Reckless Endangerment 1st, Stalking 1st, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation and Reckless Driving. Kelly was remanded to the Montgomery County Jail in lieu of $100K cash, $500K bond.
Amsterdam Police Department is being assisted in this investigation by the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.
On Tuesday May 2nd the victim in this case was released to recuperate at home from Albany Medical Center with injuries that are non-life threatening.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
