EAST CHICAGO, INDIANA – UPDATE: This notice is to inform you that your water services may be temporarily interrupted on Tuesday, March 18, 2025 between the hours of 8am and 1pm relating to emergency hydrant and valve replacement type work in your area, as well as roadways in the vicinity may be partially affected to vehicular traffic.
Note that the Precautionary Boil Water Advisory remains in effect as of Monday, March 17, 2025 @ 9:45am, as the East Chicago Water Department will be experiencing a loss and drop in pressure as a result of emergency fire hydrant and valve repairs/replacement being performed in your area. Due to the loss of pressure within the distribution system dropping below 20 pounds per square inch (PSI), a PRECAUTIONARY BOIL WATER ADVISORY is being issued for customers within the vicinity effective Monday, March 17, 2025 @ 9:45am and until further notice. The advisory will remain in effect until water samples are collected and analyzed to confirm that the water quality has not been affected and the water is safe to drink, meeting regulatory drinking water standards and requirements. The sampling and testing process typically takes 24-48 hours, or as required. While this advisory is in effect, it is recommended that customers boil tap water vigorously for at least five (5) minutes prior to using it for cooking, food preparation, drinking, making ice, etc. Please continue to boil all cooking and drinking water until you are notified that it is no longer necessary. Residents and customers are requested to share this information with those who may not have received this message directly.
Customers will be notified when the precautionary boil water advisory has been lifted in the same manner that this notice has been issued. Customers under a precautionary boil water advisory can resume normal water usage when the advisory is lifted without taking additional measures. If you experience cloudiness or discolored water, it is recommended that you run your faucets for a few minutes until the water runs clear.
The City apologizes for the inconvenience and requests your cooperation. Should you have any questions or require further information, please contact the East Chicago Water Department at your convenience at (219) 391-8469 or via email at ecwater@eastchicago.com/wguzman@eastchicago.com.
