The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch for our area. Snow is expected to begin in the afternoon hours of Sunday 02/22 and continue through Monday evening 02/23. Total Snow accumulation predictions currently vary from 6-10 inches up to 12-14 inches. Snowfall rates could be between 1-2 inches per hour with winds of approximately 15-25 MPH with gusts up to 45 MPH. Snowfall rates and steady winds will create Blizzard conditions resulting in reduced visibility and whiteout conditions.
Ahead of the storm, Governor Sherrill has declared a State of Emergency across all 21 Counties effective 12:00pm Sunday 02/22. This declaration is to ensure the health, safety and wellbeing of all residents, public safety employees and heir support staff by limiting travel on public roadways and ensuring effective preparedness and recovery operations as emergency crews work throughout the storm.
Currently our Emergency Services, Department of Public Works and their support staff have ensured their equipment and personnel are prepared for this weather event.
We would also like to take this time to remind you to ensure Fire Hydrants and the areas around them are clear of snow and ice, ensuring they are readily accessible for use in the event of an emergency. It should also be noted, motor vehicles should be clear of all snow and ice prior to traveling on any roadway to ensure the safety of the occupants and other motorists.
Additionally, parking of motor vehicles is not permitted on any roadways within the Township during snow and ice storms to ensure the DPW can properly clear the roadways.
