At approximately 8:30 a.m. city personnel responded to the report of a sewage leak at the Hartman Park Lift Station. Upon arrival they discovered that a pipe had possibly broke in the lift station and raw sewage was leaking into a storm drain that eventually empties into the Animas River. City personnel took immediate action and blocked the storm drain to stop the raw sewage from entering it. Crews from Aztec Public Works, the City of Bloomfield, Sychar LLC. and Tri Energy Services arrived on scene a short time later and began clean up measures and will eventually begin repairs to the lift station.
The Office of Emergency Management was notified of the incident and notified all the entities that use water downstream of the spill. City personnel have notified or are in the process of notifying all the government agencies that require mandatory notification when a spill takes place.
